Moonlight Dancing

Do you like to dance? Coventry University student dance group Moonlight dance company are collaborating with Angels Theatre School do create an easter dance course entitled ‘We Shall Not Sleep’, set in the great war.

Third year BA Dance, Theatre and Professional Practice students Sarah Hale and Katie Chopping set up Moonlight Dance Company as part of their third year final project.

Sarah explained:

We will explore the causes and consequences of the first and second world wars and the broad spectrum of modern dance in this country. Our main focus will be on contemporary dance with our performance on the 5th day of the course. We will be going through how to turn acting-like movements into dance, this is a process that we (Moonlight dance company) have done in our university work.

War can be a very complicated and sensitive subject for young people to understand. Sarah went on to say:

We feel confident that the students who take part in the course will leave with a clearer understanding of both wars and gain an insight into first world war poetry and a grasp of dance born from the era.

Moonlight dance company recently held auditions for new dancers to add to their company and will have their first ever performance on Wednesday 19th May 2010, in ET 221, Ellen Terry Building, Jordans Well, Coventry. CV1 3GX.
