The Moonlight Dancing article was written for the Coventry Telegraph; this is because it is about the university but promotes a non-university dance course so I felt the local paper would be the best place for my article. The article is aimed at parents of young children. I found out about this story from a friend of mine doing a dance degree. I asked her if she was doing any projects and she directed me to her website where I found out about the collaborative dance course. I decided to go with a promotional angle for the article because I felt that was the best was to go and what the clients Moonlight Dance Company and Coventry University needed. For sources I used the Angels Theatre website, the Moonlight Dance company website and an interview with Sarah Hale, one of the founders of the moonlight dance company.
I found out about the Gravestone article from Ali Bushnell. This article was written for a university newspaper such as The Source or CU Today. The article is aimed at students and adults, or anyone interested in the history of Coventry, such as new comers to the area. The sources I used were the Coventry Cathedral website and history student Ross Armstrong. I decided go with an informative angle on the story because not many people know about the gravestones or why they are there.
The Continuing Professional development courses article was written for university press for example an online story or press release. This was the courses would get the most views and students would find the article interesting as it is a possible career path for them. I found out about this story by contacting the university’s health and life sciences faculty press department. My main source was an extended interview with the director of the continuing professional development courses Natalie Mills. I decided to go with the informative angle for this story as the story was a news story as such. This story required me to do an extended interview. I met up with Natalie Mills because as the director of the course she knew the most information. I decided I wanted to get all the information I possibly could I recorded the interview on my Dictaphone; this allowed me to ask Natalie questions freely. I did not have to write down any answers, though I did write down some key points so I could refer back to them afterwards. In the interview I was given a CPD course booklet which I used as my other source for the article.
My article about Jon Snow’s visit to Coventry (snow business) was written for The Buzz, this is because the students who read the Buzz are most likely to be interested in the story. I found out about this story through the Coventry conversations list. My sources for this article were attending the Coventry conversation in the Cathedral as well as a quick interview with out of the other attendees. I decided to start with a question in my article and answer that question throughout the story, this was my angle because I felt it was more interesting and would not become old news the quickly.
The Around the Globe article was written for students, so it would go into a university students newspaper like The Source. I found out about this story when I attended the Christian Union. I interviewed several members of the Christian union that were involved in the Globe Cafe, I was also given a leaflet with all of the general details on. I angled my story towards informing students because the story is publicity.
My Jonah article was written for the Coventry Telegraph because it is a story about the university but it is something that is open to all Coventry residents, therefore telegraph readers were my target audience. I found out about this story from a friend at the Christian Union and decided that it was very interesting and worth pursuing. I decided to go with a funny informative angle because I felt this story was more promotional news. My sources were interviews with the musical’s creators.
My TNA pre-show article was written for the Coventry Telegraph and aimed at sports fans from the age of 10 and up. I decided to go with an informative, knowledge based angle because I felt this was a niche subject that would attract a lot of sports fans. My sources were the TNA website and advertising at the Skydome.
My TNA after show article was also written for the Coventry Telegraph, aimed at the same audience as the pre-show article. I decided to go with the same angle as above for the same reasons. My sources for the article was attending the show itself and an interview with one of the attendees.
My wrestling schools article was written for the Coventry Telegraph and aimed at parents with teenage children who might be interested in doing a different kind of extracurricular activity. I angled the story towards health and fun because this is what wrestling is all about. My sources for the article were Slam wrestling’s website and the Phoenix wrestling website, along with an interview with local wrestling fan Joe Mills.
My Macmillan publishing article was written for university students who might be interested in entering the competition, therefore it was written for the source or cu today. The sources I used for my article were the Macmillan website and an interview with Laura Anderson. I angled this story towards informing the students because the competition has not taken place yet.
Whilst doing these stories I gained more confidence, for example I was able to do several interviews unaccompanied and several extended interviews. I applied my knowledge of previous interviews and recorded them instead of relying heavily on pen and paper, this meant I was able to get more information for my articles.
