Continuing Professional Development Courses

Do you want to further your career? Coventry Universities’ health and life sciences faculty are running Continuing Professional Development courses. These are courses that aim to increase your employability within the health profession.

Why do a CPD course? Natalie Mills, head of Health CPD explained that:

“CPD has always been a part of becoming a nurse, physiotherapist or occupational therapist, once you have your registration you have to keep updating your skills.”

So for example:

“If you’re a physiotherapist you might be interested in back pain and do an acupuncture course... you can also climb the skills ladder and do leadership, management or prescribing.”

These courses, in theory, could take you from porter to chief executive. For example you can do a diploma in health and social care, followed by CPD modules in prescribing or palliative care, then BSC (hons). If you wanted to take you career further you do a postgraduate CPD course in non-medical prescribing, followed by a CPD masters in advanced practicing, even followed by a professional doctorate if you wish.

For those of you that don’t have the time to attend university every week, the CPD programme also offers online courses, which use resources such as podcasting and streaming to deliver the course.

Mills added:

“We recruit predominantly from Australia or New Zealand etc as there are some specialist modules that are difficult to find elsewhere”.

There are both undergraduate and postgraduate courses available, ranging from £400-£600 per course. With courses from ‘The Developing Child’ to ‘The Teenage/Young adult and cancer journey’, there’s bound to be a course for everyone.
